Quietly, the Houston Cougars are getting some national attention. With the media blackout coming from Fall Camp, it’s hard to get a read on what we will be in 2017 but some national writers are giving us some love.
In the AP Poll, the Coogs check in at #34 – respectable for how the season ended and with the regime change. The Coogs are getting ‘some’ respect even though the national stories from last year have disappeared – replaced by silence.
Only 4 voters ranked the Coogs with Florida beat writer Pat Dooley rating us the highest – 14th. Austin American Stateman’s Kirk Bohls and Matt Brown ranked the Coogs #23 and GameDay’s Rece Davis rated us 25th.
The same Matt Brown projects the Coogs to the Cotton Bowl in an article on Sports On Earth. Brown says we will face Oklahoma State – an ending that every Cougar fan can agree would be a monster success. It would mean we won our division, the American title and took the G5 spot in the NY6.
UH has not publicly settled on a QB to date – the assumption is Kyle Allen will win the job but with each passing day, more uncertainty remains.
